As Social Media Manager for the National Association of REALTORS®, I was lucky enough to be involved in an amazing string of events that eventually changed the way Google and other search engines were allowed to index listings from agent provided IDX’s. Long story short, they can now.

During that debate, I postulated that while in theory, I agreed that the rule needed to be changed, I also felt that the advantage that the agent had gained would be short lived. As of today, it officially is.

Diverse Solutions has released their new IDXPress plugin to the public, and from the input I’ve received from some of the beta testers, this affordable and simple to set up plugin is going to allow the same sort of Google-Lovin’-Indexing that was considered an unfair advantage less than a year ago.

If you’re hoping to grow organic SERPs from listing based Google queries, experimenting with a plugin like this is a no-brainer. It won’t be long before this sort of tool is required simply to keep up with everyone else.

Registration is now open!

by Todd Carpenter on January 17, 2010

Registration for Real Estate WordCamp is now open. There are three tiers of pricing. ALL Four get you the same access to the event.

All net proceeds for this event are going to mffo.org. All of Real Estate WordCamps costs have already been covered by sponsorship commitments. Therefore, all of the admission proceeds will go to charity. The more you spend, the more that goes to charity.

Give what you feel is appropriate. Some people feel like they are more committed to learning when they pay more for an event. Go right ahead and do that as well. By organizing an event for charity, the talent wanting to present is top notch. You could spend a lot more than $200 on a conference and learn a ton less.

Real Estate Chart of the Day

by Todd Carpenter on January 8, 2010

Check out this free WordPress Plugin from Bring The Blog. The Real Estate Chart of the Day embeds a new chart (I’m guessing every day right?) on your sidebar. This is a pretty simple way to add dynamic content to your blog. I’ll leave it running here on this site for today. Here’s a screenshot if you come along later.

Dan Green, who wrote this plugin is speaking at Real Estate WordCamp. We’re still ironing out the details on his topic, but this is just another example of the great talent attending the event!

Kelley Koehler will present a beginner’s guide to PHP & CSS

January 8, 2010

In doing a presentation with Mariana Wagner, Ginger Wilcox and Kelley Koehler last year, I laughed as she told the crowd,
“My three partners call themselves geeks. They’re not geeks. They might be geek-lite. But they are not geeks. I’m a geek.”
It’s so true, Kelley is a former software engineer that would rather sell real estate [...]

Eric’s writing a “Project WordPress” series over at GeekEstate and starts off with a great introductory post on preferred plugins.

Sponsorship Opportunities for Real Estate WordCamp

December 6, 2009

I really wanted to keep Kubrick as the theme. But, it was really hard to serve up sponsorship ads with the default theme, and I got tired of developers offering to trade me a “real” design for sponsorship. Since my goal is to raise as much money as possible with sponsorship dollars, I’m not doing [...]

I’ve been playing with the new Simple Real Estate Pack for WordPress plugin this week and it’s pretty cool. Now accepting speaking proposals.

October 10, 2009

I’ve worked out a tentative schedule for how the day will go. We have four rooms to work with. Two big and two small.
Big room 1 will be a bloggers track. The sessions will be all about content. How to blog well, how to attract web traffic, and how to convert that traffic into business. [...]

There’s something about Kubrick

October 8, 2009

I bet I’ve installed WordPress at least 30 times. Of course, each and every time a WordPress blog is born, it’s sporting the default Kubrick theme. It’s often the first thing to get changed, but I still like seeing it.
When I organized whatEVAHcamp, the idea of a highfalutin’ custom theme for the event wasn’t even [...]
